Imagine going into work for over four years straight only to know you had to face the one stubborn challenge that has been on your desk since June of 2004. I am sure that all of us would become quite frustrated, but not Terry Svob, Havana’s Economic Development Coordinator. Terry kept the doors of communications open with companies all over the world and recently won his four-year battle to sell the south side Intermet Plant vacated in June 2004. To make matters even more difficult the condition of the plant had deteriorated badly, environmental hazard issues such as asbestos, PCBS, and ground water contamination loomed as negative factors for any potential buyer.

The 227 Wagner Avenue LLC, is a group of investors from Pennsylvania who are experts in redevelopment of business sites having contamination issues. They have also purchased a similar facility in Decatur. The group is currently demolishing the foundry portion of the plant and leaving the office and warehouse areas.

So you see, just as in Terry’s case, persistence does pay no matter what the odds are.
