Misty Long is one of my artistic and creative heroes. A talent like hers is a great accomplishment of a lifetime but at such a young age is truly remarkable. Just a couple short years ago Misty was a talented high school senior when 62644 was fortunate to host our "Art for All" program. Misty was the heart of that program as she was such a natural with the children who attended those fun and educational sessions. Misty is off on a great life's journey guided by her artistic talents and the creative windmills of her mind. No medium has been left untouched by her. I sincerely hope that this will allow you to get to know the amazing talents of one of Havana's treasures, our amazing young folks, Misty you are truly a shinning example. An exhibit of Misty's work is currently showing at Spoon River College. This exhibit opened on April 27th and photos from this opening are posted below along with the press release from SRC.
The Spoon River College Art Department presents: The Art of Misty Long The art of Misty Long will be featured in the Highlight Room of Spoon River College from Wednesday, April 22 through May 5. The sophomore art student from Havana has been the top recipient of the Art Performing Grant scholarship for two years. She is the daughter of P.J. and Ginger Long and a 2007 graduate of Havana High School who studied under Jennifer Chism for four years. "From the moment we saw her high school portfolio we knew she was someone special. The level of talent and creativity was amazing. She has continued to grow and mature as a college student. We have been so fortunate to have her at Spoon River College," said Tracy Snowman, art instructor. Misty will be attending Illinois State University in the fall and majoring in art education. Misty Long works in a wide variety of media including sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, and design. "Misty works non-stop on her art. I don't think we have had many students in my 20 years at the college who have lived and breathed their work the way she does. The volume and quality of her accomplishments are obvious when you see the show," stated Snowman. The show will be open from 9am to 5pm daily. An opening reception was held on Monday, April 27th. "Meeting Misty in person is the best part of all. Her work is wonderful and a definite reflection of the fantastic person behind it. We hope people will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about art by talking directly to the person who created it," stated Snowman. |
