Havana Junior High School vs. Abingdon

Historic Season Ends in Double OT

For the first time in the history of HHS Girls Basketball our Lady Ducks became Class 1A Sectional Tournament Champions and joined the Illinois Elite 8. The Supersectional game against Brimfield was held in Monmouth on Monday, February 23rd. In what was described as "The game of the Year", our girls took Brimfield to the mat many times throughout the 6 periods of play. It was a very physical game and of course Havana's devastating full court press was applied from the opening of the game.

"Facing a determined Havana squad Monday night at the Class 1A Monmouth Supersectional, the second-ranked Indians earned their first-ever trip to the state finals after coming away with a hard-fought 69-62 double-overtime victory in front of a packed crowd at Glennie Gymnasium on the Monmouth College campus." writes Josh Wessler of the GateHouse News Service. I was not able to be present for the game due to family health issues but David Roos and Susan Ellsworth were kind enough to make sure we had photographs of the game to share with all of you. Thank you both very much.

Rachel Noll scored 18 points to lead Havana. “We kept thinking that the longer the game went, the better off we’d be,’’ Havana coach Jerry Wilson said. “It felt like maybe we had a little bit more depth than they did, but give them credit. They hung in there.’’

Havana's Rachel Noll had earlier reached her HHS career 1,000 point milestone. Today she was also named to the Statewide Class 1A First Team. Congratulations Rachel and all the team. You have done something this year that has never been done before and we are all extremely proud of you. What a team this is, I don't know how a community could ask for better representatives than this great group of young ladies. All the best girls!
