Cory Miller's Poetry Corner

He has been beaten and assaulted but his sprit will never be broken. Cory has opened up his creative talents in the form of his poetry. This special section of 62644.com is dedicated to the amazing strength and courage of this young man from whom we can all learn many very important lessons from. Please check here often for Cory's latest poems.

The powerful story within these poems tell the entire story of a battle, a very difficult battle requiring courage and bravery that few of us can even imagine. The author of this poem knows of this rare courage and bravery on a daily basis in every single day of his life. It must have been determined that this author has the strength in his heart and soul to carry even a heaver load in life's battles so he goes forth to battle life daily with a strength and courage seldom seen.

In these poems Cory is telling the world what happened on July 3, 2010 in his own powerful words of creative poetry and some lyrics from popular songs which fit his situation.

"I was asked if I would be interested in singing Cory's songs, and I can tell you I was very honored to have the privilege. These four songs are actual songs by Martina McBride, Toby Keith and Mark Wills. Cory wrote new lyrics to the songs in order to share his story. Having spent my life with a disability as well, I can tell you it was very moving singing and speaking the words Cory has written. So much feeling, hurt, and yet powerful strength can be found in his words. For me, the strongest message I received from these poems was that giving up is never an option; there is ALWAYS hope! Listen, take to heart, and share Cory's story. Thank you for sharing your heart with us Cory, and for allowing me to record your powerful words."

Song #1

Angry Havanacan. Courtesy of Freedom for Cory.  by Cory Miller
(Angry American, courtesy of the Red White & Blue - Toby Keith)

Angry havanacan/ curtcy of freedom  for cory

Havana Girls and Havana Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Old Cory Flying

he’s has been hurt he wants
to sleep in peace at night
When he lay down his head

my mom and dad do freedom for Cory
when they went to city hall
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy

AND GO FREE.

Now this city that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin' in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey grandma
Put your name at the top of her list
And the grandma
Started shakin' her fist
And the eagle will fly

Man, it's gonna be hell
When you hear mom Start ringin' her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of freedom for Cory

Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
his family will fight
When you rattle their cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
their Cory James
'Cause they’ll put a boot in your ass
It's the havanacan way

Hey grandma
Put your name at the top of his list
And the mom and dad
Started shakin' her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin' her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the justices for Cory

Poor little police Havana in  town.

She gained five pounds and lost her crown.

Quick fix plastic surgical antidote.

Got herself a record deal, cant even sing a note.

Spill a bag of drugs, make a million dollars.

Customs caught a thug if mom can’t get through lori can if that won’t work, fits gonna hit the shan.

Thats us, Thats right

Gotta love this havanacan ride.

Funny how the world keeps turnin.

Song #3

Independence Day by Cory Miller
(Independence Day by Martina McBride)

Independence Day

Well she seemed all right by 3 weeks
Though he looked a little worried and weak
She tried to pretend he wasn’t bein picked on again But boys left the proof on him cheek
I was only sixteen years old that summer
And I always seemed to be in the way
So I took myself down to the theater in town
On Independence Day

Well word gets a round in a small, small town
They said they were dangerous boys

Mama was proud and she stood her ground
But she knew she was on the losin' end
Some folks screamed and some folks talked
But everybody looked the other way
And when time talk out there was no one about
On Independence Day

Let Freedom ring, let the co ry sing
Let the whole world know that today is a
Day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, Let the guilty pay, It's
Independence Day

Well they lit up my sky like fourth of July
By the time that they got done They just put out the  words
and took down some names
told me to stay home
Now I ain't sayin' it's right or it's wrong
But maybe it's the only way
Talk about a boy’s freedom
It's Independence Day

Let Freedom ring, let the co ry sing
Let the whole world know that today is a
Day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, Let the guilty pay, It's
Independence Day

Roll the stone away
It's Independence Day

Song #4

Don't Pick On Me by Cory Miller
(Don't Laugh at Me - Mark Wills)

Don't Pick on Me by Cory Miller

I'm a little boy in the wheelchair
The one they always pick on
And I know how it feels
To cry myself to sleep

I'm  was that kid on every playground
Who's always chosen last
A single teenage boy tryin to frind my freedom
You don't have to be my friend
But is it too much to ask

don’t pick on me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me

I'm the cripple on the corner
You've passed me on the street
And I wouldn't be out here beggin'
If I had my freedom
And don't think I don't notice
That our eyes never meet

I lost my freedom when
Someone cross that yellow line
The day they told me to stay in
Is the day I lost my mind
And right now I'm down to holdin'
This little cardboard sign...so

Don't pick on  me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Someday we'll all get to go freely
Don't laugh at me

I'm fat, I'm thin, I'm short, I'm tall
I'm deaf, I'm in a wheelchair, hey, aren't we all

Don't pick on me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't pick on me
